Our junior footballers had their second win in succession on Tuesday when they overcame a gallant St. Fiachra's side. This young team is ably coached by Ms. McCarry and look to be a fine side in the making. This photograph was taken at the conclusion of yesterday's game and we look forward to exciting times ahead.
Keep up the good work boys.

How to read with your child at home for maximum benefit

posted 9 Sep 2019, 12:29 by web master

Dear Parents,

We are currently trialing a new approach to homework in Scoil Mhuire. We are asking the boys to read for at least 15-20 minutes each night and to discuss one aspect of the book with someone at home. Research demonstrates a range of benefits for parents and kids.

The aim is to increase their enjoyment of homework by making it more of an engaging family activity. You can read with your child, alternate the reading or allow your child to read independently. The most important part is the discussion afterwards. I would suggest you choose a different topic each night to discuss. The topics are highlighted in bold and I have included some sample questions and sample language, which could be used. We look forward to hearing your feedback.

Please see attached document below with suggested questions and discussion topics.

Croke Park Glory.

Hail the conquering heroes, as the Scoil Mhuire boys did themselves, their families and their school proud with a magnificent win against Scoil San Treasa at a sunny Croke Park yesterday. This wonderful team, brilliantly coached by their teacher Mr.Rabbitte and ably supported by our St. Vincent's G.P.O. Emma Byrne, produced a sparkling performance to wrack up a score of 4-16 against very fine opposition. It was a tremendous moment to see our team  receive the trophy from the President of the G.A.A. John Horan. We had heroes all over the field with outstanding performances from Ronan O Neill,  Harry Curley  Ciarán O Connor and David O Connell. Ben Henry was a tower of strength in the back line and young players like Billy Cosgrove, Harry Dinnigan and Tomas Brady showed that hurling is alive and well in Scoil Mhuire. The future looks bright for hurling in St. Vincents withmany fine young players coming through the ranks.

Internet Safety

Over the past two years we have had Ger Brick visit the school to give talks to parents on Internet Safety. I can truly say that Ger is one of the best and most clearly constructed speakers I have ever heard on this topic. Following his last talk he sent me a link whereby parents could access all the information available on the night.
I strongly urge all parents to open this link and I know it will greatly help to educate you as a parent on the do's and don'ts around Internet Safety.
