**Influenza Awareness**

We are delighted to welcome the boys back to school at 8:55am tomorrow morning and hope that you all had a peaceful Christmas.

As you are probably aware, there is a serious outbreak of influenza currently in the country and following advice from the HSE, we would ask that parents be very vigilant with regard to noticing symptoms in your children. If your child is unwell with a temperature and is coughing or sneezing, then it is imperative that you refrain from sending them to school due to the highly contagious nature of the illness. In a school situation this is likely to spread quickly to other children, staff and possibly onwards to vulnerable family members.

The same advice would be extended for tummy bugs. If your child has vomited or had diarrhoea in the 24 hours preceding school, they should not attend school to avoid situations where we have outbreaks within a particular class. Preventing outbreaks in school is of the utmost importance. We ask that you remind you child of hand hygiene. We would hope that this measure, as well as keeping children home from school when unwell, will minimise the spread of infectious illnesses this term.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2018.
