Over the past few weeks, the boys of Scoil Mhuire have been preparing for their Christmas recital in their music classes with Ms. Stapleton, and on Wednesday, December 19th they performed to a packed hall.

First up were the 5th class boys from Room 17 and Room 19. They performed a beautiful rendition of ‘Joy to the World’ in two part harmony. They also played ‘Good King Wenceslas’ and ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ on their new recorders.

The 5th class were followed by a performance of the famous Band Aid song, ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas – Feed the World’ by the boys from Room 13 and Room 18.

Next to perform were the boys in 3rd class from Room 7 and Room 9. They sang a selection of Christmas songs, including ‘Silent Night’, ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ and a rather lively version of ‘Deck the Halls’! They also performed ‘Winter Wonderland’ on the recorder.

‘Walking in the Air’, the classic Christmas song from ‘The Snowman’, was performed in two part harmony by the 4th class boys from Room 3 and
Room 8. These classes along with the boys in Room 17 and Room 19 are currently preparing to take part in the National Children’s Choir. They recently visited a school in Ongar to have their first group rehearsal. They are working very hard, preparing for their performance the National Basketball Arena in April 2013. The boys also performed ‘Jingle Bells’ on the recorders, again in two part harmony – a definite highlight of the afternoon.

The final class group to perform were the boys from Room 2 and Room 4 in 2nd class. The boys sang ‘Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer’, with the added surprise of verse as Gaeilge. They followed this with ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’ and an outstanding performance of ‘Winter Wonderland’ on the recorder.

Finally, all 288 boys from Scoil Mhuire assembled on and around the stage for a final Christmas carol. The recital concluded with a beautiful rendition of ‘Away in a Manger’.

The staff and pupils of Scoil Mhuire would like to thank all who attended and showed their support at their Christmas Recital and wish you all a peaceful Christmas and New Year.
