On Friday 22nd June, Scoil Mhuire were proudly presented with their first green schools flag. Under the guidance of Miss Groarke, the Green School's Committee have worked tirelessly to reduce the amount of litter and waste that our school produces.

Positive results from taking part in Green Schools:

  • Our school caretaker has reported that we have halved the amount of general waste leaving the school.
  • We are now making much better use of our Green Bins.
  • Recycling in now a part of each classroom’s daily routine and there is more of an awareness of the theme of Litter and Waste.
  • Each class recycles old mobile phones (these go to the Jack and Jill foundation), corks and batteries.
  • Pupils are responsible for their own environmental awareness. (Children take home their litter and recycle what they can at home).
  • Pupils are showing an increased interest in recycling.
  • Our school is now a tidier and more environmentally friendly place!
